I've tried download the Recovery Image from Microsoft for my Surface RT (using serial number). Use official manual for creating Recovery USB (format flash in FAT32 and copy files from downloaded archive, Press Volume- & Power Release & Release Volume- after Surface logo shown). Trying to boot from USB - nothing happen, I got BSOD! Trying to enter UEFI/BIOS (Press Volume+ & Power Release & Release Volume+ after UEFI/BIOS shown) - nothing happen, I got BSOD! Everytime I got same errors: first 0xc000000f and 0xc0000428 after pressing Win Key.

I use different Recovery Images for different regions with Win 8.0RT and Win 8.1RT, find & download ready custom images and trying to boot from... Use USB flash-drive 2.0 and 3.0 (different sizes 8 Gb, 32 Gb)

Update: While Microsoft keeps working on permanently resolving the issues with its tablet operating system, here is a video that will help you create a USB drive with Windows RT Recovery Image that Microsoft just made available for everyone to download.

This post at Microsoft just tells everything of what I feel about. They mentioned you(Plugable) in the post. -us/surface/forum/surfwinrt-surfusing/does-microsoft-care-about-the-community/4c6c2e37-fdca-496f-a40a-158062b533da?lc=1033&auth=1

Fortunately, a user found a direct download link to the Windows RT 8.1 Update 3 update package. I have tried to install it on my Surface RT, but it ended up searching for Windows updates endlessly. I find out that many users also experience this problem like me. I decided to start from scratch by resetting my Surface RT once again. And this time, I can do it, and the Start menu is back on my Surface RT now.

Have this issue and very frustrated as i cant download Drawboard PDF, an essential for my work. I reset my Surface2 a few days ago after experience multiple software issues, only to encounter worse ones now!!!

I have been trying to do this, but i noticed that the Windows store doesn work anymore. I got this message: This versión of Windows is no longer supported by Windows Store. Get the newest versión of Windows. And then it sends me to get Windows 10, which its ironic since Surface rt isnt capable of update to Windows 10. Any help with this? i cant install any app besides the ones that came with windows

what i did was after trying a million times ,what finally worked was to do a refresh and not loose ill my stuff , when it finished i , went to system update and when i got them i didnt update nothing that had to do with office . so skip anything that has to do with office dont install those updates .. when all those updates install restart wait , then check for updates again and remember not to install anything that says office , hopefully then you will get the kb2919355 update install it along with whatever other updates that are there, no office remember , once it reboots now you can install Windows8.1-KB3097667-arm.msu so download it from above and leave it on your desktop , and while your at it also download kb3173424 and kb3172614 and also put it on your desktop . turn off wifi and restart your surface rt , after it restarts install kb3097667 then restart then install kb3173424 restart install kb3172614 then restart ,after that you should be good to go .. i tried a millions times and wasted hours , and what worked was not installing any office updates until i did the steps i did above .. you might have to do this if you see update get stuck be patient ..Swipe from the right > Control Panel > TroubleshootingUnder System and Security click Fix problems with Windows UpdateClick Next and click on Try troubleshooting as an administratorNow the tool will detect and fix problems for you, it will take about two minutes to complete if

Jailbreaking was once a bit more complicated, requiring you to run a special hack every time you booted your device. There's now a dedicated RT Jailbreak Tool that can automatically run at startup, jailbreaking your Windows RT device every time it boots. To jailbreak your Windows RT device, just follow the instructions in the thread -- download the .zip file, extract it, and double-click the runExploit.bat file.

Try to download FF but get msg. This app cannot run on your PC. To find apps for this device, go to the windows store. When I go to the store it wants me to pay $3.99I want to use FF, so I can install greasemonkey for my FB game.Thank you.

I tried to install some of the list of x86 app compiled for ARM. I found QupZilla, which should run on ARM, but I already were unable to install 7zip on Windows RT by downloading the binaries of 7-zip ARM version from here:

When you want to remove Windows 10 and go back to Windows 8.1, you may need a physical media to reset your surface. And the personal data and files may be lost. So, create a USB recovery drive before upgrading to Windows 10, which will help you to reset your Surface.

I just bit the bullet and installed the Windows 8.1 Preview on my Surface RT. It's a one-way upgrade (meaning you won't be able to go from this Preview Build to the final) so make a Recovery Drive with a USB drive you have lying around. You'll need at least a 4GB USB key for this backup and the drive will be erased. Then go to and follow the instructions. Basically you download an update, install, reboot, and then the Windows Store says Windows 8.1 Preview is available. You install for a while (took a few hours) and assuming you're signed in with the same Microsoft Account it will redownload all your apps.

The Settings area has a LOT more info than before, including some rather deep pages (you may have to hunt) like this one on my Wi-Fi Router. Note that it's marked as a Meter Connection. I thought it was cool that Outlook didn't connect automatically when this was marked as Metered (this means my router has limited data and I could be charged for big downloads). I have personally downloaded gigs of mail while overseas and gotten nailed by big bills, so this was cool.

On May 3, 2017, Microsoft unveiled the Surface Laptop, a non-detachable version of the Surface Book claiming to have the thinnest touch-enabled LCD panel of its kind.[58] Its permanently attached hardware keyboard comes in four colors and uses the same kind of fabric as the Type Cover accessories for the tablets. The device comes with the newly announced Windows 10 S operating system, which enables faster boot times at the expense of the ability to download and install programs from the web instead of the Microsoft Store. Users can switch to a fully enabled version of Windows 10 for free.[58]

On Saturday, reports began to surface (no pun intended) that the Windows RT 8.1 update rolling out to current Microsoft customers since Thursday were bricking/disabling a number of devices. The update was pulled over the weekend, and confirmed by Microsoft. So far it's unknown how many devices have been rendered useless after the update.

What's interesting here is that Windows RT 8.1 was completed in late August, and both Microsoft and hardware vendors would have presumably spotted scenarios such as this before the update was released. Even more, the update, for now, is only provided through Windows Store, meaning customers with more than one Windows device are required to download and update each separately as opposed to downloading the updates once and distributing them via a USB drive accordingly.
